About Jamie Norton
Many chefs had their first experience of food at an early age. For Jamie Norton, who was raised in her family farm in upstate New York, it was the experience of her family growing their own food that left a deep impression. Assisting her grandparents in different catering events helped fuel her interest in the culinary world.
Jamie’s passion for cooking took off in high school while attending the S.A.E.C. Boces culinary arts program. It was during this time she ultimately decided to pursue the life of a chef.
Through Participating in Skills USA and the National Prostart Competition, Jamie was awarded educational scholarships and began sharpening her culinary skills at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, where she earned her degree in culinary arts and hospitality management.
After graduation, Jamie crossed the country and started working at the world-renowned five-star resort, the Broadmoor, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
She then earned her master’s in food culture, communication and marketing at the University of Gastronomic Sciences, a savory institution of higher learning dedicated entirely to the study of food, in Pollenzo, Italy.
While living in Italy and traveling throughout Europe, Jamie quickly fell in love with the countryside’s rich culinary culture. Jamie then knew she was going to focus on Italian cuisine. By visiting local farms, producers, and restaurants, she came to experience firsthand how passionate Italians can be about cooking and the act of eating.
Devoted and with finely honed skills, Jamie returned to the United States! She set her aim to get hired at one of Saratoga Springs’s best restaurants, Maestro’s at the Van Dam, where she quickly became sous chef under the guidance of Chef Danny Petrosino.
Each chef lends his or her culinary method to the craft in unique ways, and Jamie’s deep comprehension and passion for the art of food led Chef Danny to take her under his wing. That bond led Jamie to help Chef Danny open his new restaurant, Osteria Danny.
As sous chef at Osteria Danny in Saratoga Springs, New York, Jamie sought to use her creativity, knowledge, and innate understanding, in her words, “to exceed expectations on the plate and in the industry" a reality!
In the early mornings, you can find her at Osteria Danny. And if you look through the window, you’ll see a motivated chef covered in flour doing what she loves most, making homemade pasta—gnocchi, ravioli cavatelli, and whatever else that may inspire an idea for that night’s dinner menu.
So next time you are visiting Osteria Danny, keep in mind our raving about the amazing food in front of you and remember that Jamie’s contribution to the menu represents the infusion of her education and experience under Chef Danny!
